Mixed Fortunes For the NVL Team ...

The Men's NVL team suffered mix fortunes over the past week.
First up the team took on Watford in the 2nd Round of the Shield Competition in a home tie which was played at the Ashcombe Volleyball Centre on the 4th December.
Although the home side started slowly and lost the opening set (22-25) they quashed any Watford hopes of extending their lead and causing a cup upset by edging the 2nd set and then letting their experience show by comfortably taking the 3rd and 4th set to win the match 3-1 (22-25 25-23 25-9 25-16).
The side were rewarded with another home tie in the 3rd round against Non-NVL opposition and will take on London Onyx on the 9th January at the Ashcombe Volleyball Centre.
However, they were unable to take their Cup/Shield form into the League when they took on London Giants in the NVL Division 2 last saturday at the Ashcombe Volleyball Centre.
Their opponents have only lost once this season and it was the visitors who started more positive by comprehensively taking the first set. However, Guildford rallied to take the 2nd set but were unable to prevent London from narrowly taking the 3rd and 4th sets.
However, there were many signs that the home side are finding their pre-lockdown form as they completely dominated London for large parts of the match which strong indication that they will be able to turn around their league standing when they resume in January after the Xmas break.
