Match Report | "Are you Cyclone in disguise" the crowd chanted as a depleted Tsunami team took to the court. Several clashes in arrangements meant only one Tsunami player was available for the Sunday night fixture. To fill the void 5 cyclone players were drafted in. Seeing this as an opportunity to impress coach John Biddiscombe the cyclone players put on a fantastic display to narrowly take the first two sets 25-23 and 27-25. The levels of concentration required to play in the unorthodox rotation took their toll in the 3rd set with Spelthorne winning 25-23. The next set was all Spelthorne’s, with a drained Tsunami struggling in every area losing 25-12. Summoning their last reserves of energy, Tsunami took to court for the final set knowing they had already exceeded their expectations in the match and had nothing to lose. With a positive attitude and lots of noise Tsunami chased Spelthorne throughout the set but found themselves 10-14 down. Spelthorne relaxed a bit too much at this point and after siding out Tsunami had to serve under immense pressure. Three tough rallies and a fortunate refereeing decision saw Tsunami get back level at 14-14. At this point the pressure became too much and the serve didn’t make it over the net. With victory in their sights Spelthorne put up a huge block to take the set and the match. The first loss of the season has not ended Tsunami's title dreams, every other team in the league has lost at least one match so there is everything to play for going into the next match. |
